It’s estimated that by the year 2050, more plastic will be in our oceans compared to fish (by weight). Not only from the waste we dump into our oceans but also from discarded fishing nets and microfibres through washing synthetic fabrics.

Up to 12 million tonnes of plastic are dumped into our oceans every year, that’s roughly a truckload a minute. This overload of plastic in our oceans damages natural habitats and threatens marine life. We are finding plastic in their stomachs, as well as 1 in 3 marine mammal species being found entangled in litter including turtles, dolphins and sharks. With all this plastic ending up in every stage of our food chain. It’s even ending up on our plates.

At Mitra The Label we are helping fight this problem, as well as contributing to the solution. We are committed to sustainable, ethical and planet-friendly practices. We make all of our swimsuits handmade to order, to help minimise waste and only make/stock swimsuits that is required.

Our Production

We are proud to design and hand make our pieces here in the UK, Bristol. Being able to make our pieces handmade to order, we can be heavily involved in every step of the production process. Here at Mitra The Label,  our production process focuses on:

  • Ethical working conditions and standards.

  • Producing high-quality pieces that last.

  • Using biodegradable and eco-friendly packaging.

  • Having a zero-waste approach to garment production.

  • Only collaborates with ethical suppliers.

Focusing on all of these embraces the slow fashion movement by creating pieces that focus on quality and not quantity.

Packaging and Distribution

It is important to us that every element of Mitra The Label is as sustainable as possible. As well as our sustainable fabric, our hang tags and packagings are recycled and recyclable. We are currently in talks with a supplier to produce biodegradable hygiene liners, which we hope to release in the next couple of months.

Our Ethos

We want to encourage our customers to buy less and buy better quality and ethical clothing. Our swimwear is beautiful, flattering, high quality and made to last. Instead of shopping for new swimwear every season, every year, we ask you to invest in one of our pieces and use it for years to come. We also try to make our pieces as versatile as possible, so you can get more than one style out of an item.

The Goal

Alongside using ECONYL® yarn and biodegradable packaging, we are working towards a circular production system. Our current goal is to able to take back your used and love Mitra The Label pieces and regenerate them back into ECONYL® yarn and turn them into new pieces. This is something, we are discussing with our suppliers and are currently developing. Hopefully, it will become a reality soon but will be sure to let you know.
